Google Photos has evolved a considerable amount in the past few years, moving from a clunky experience from the time it was still know as Picasa to a refined user interface. The latest change to the Photos service is a “simplification” of the pinwheel logo.
The logo has only been currently updated on Apple iOS devices, as spotted by Justin Duino on Twitter, but other devices are likely to be updated soon.
The new logo moves towards an abstract look-and-feel by introducing a new rounded shape for each of the pinwheel sections. This change follows other recently updated logos in the Google ecosystem.
While the update itself is controversial, at least this seems to be a step in the right direction to help unify the service with the Google visual language.
